Holastak
Holashtak duration every year
Holashtak in Vedic Astrology refers to the eight-day period preceding the festival of Holi, which is considered inauspicious for performing new or significant tasks. This period starts on the Ashtami (eighth day) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the Moon) in the month of Phalguna and lasts until the full moon day, also known as Holi Purnima.
No auspicious ceremonies like engagements, weddings, or the naming of a child, starting new ventures, marriage ceremonies, housewarming events, or any major investment are undertaken during Holashtak. Donating items like food, clothes, or money to the needy during these days is believed to bring good karma and mitigate malefic effects. Devotees also prepare for Holi by performing rituals that symbolize the triumph of good over evil.
